Why we don't name medicines here
Prescription-only medicines cannot be advertised to the public in Ireland, and we think that rule protects patients. What's right for you depends on your health, your history and your goals — not on marketing. At your consultation, your Consultant Endocrinologist will talk you through every option that suits you, openly and specifically: how each works, what the evidence shows, the side effects, and the costs.

What medical treatment involves
Where treatment is appropriate, it is typically a self-administered medicine taken at home on a regular schedule, started at a low dose and increased gradually — and only ever at the pace your doctor advises, because that's how side effects are kept manageable. You'll have a review at every dose change, in person at our Dublin or Letterkenny clinics or by video, with email reviews once you're stable. Our approach is to find the lowest dose that works for you rather than defaulting upwards: it's better tolerated, and it keeps the cost of treatment down. Treatment options continue to develop, and your consultant will always discuss the full current range with you.
Who may be suitable
Medical weight management is usually considered for adults with a BMI of 30 or more, or 27 or more alongside a weight-related condition such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, raised cholesterol, sleep apnoea or heart problems — and for people asked to lose weight before elective surgery. It isn't suitable for everyone, and suitability is decided in a live consultation with a Consultant Endocrinologist, never by a form.

Side effects and safety
Every effective medicine has side effects, and part of a proper consultation is going through them before any decision — what's common and usually temporary, what's rare but serious, and what to do if something doesn't feel right. You can raise anything at any review, and suspected side effects can also be reported directly to the HPRA. If we prescribe, we ask you to read the patient information leaflet carefully.
Understanding the cost
Our consultation fees are published on the fees page — in-person €140, video €120, email review €50. Medication is separate and never sold by us: if treatment is prescribed you pay your chosen pharmacy directly. Costs vary with the treatment and dose, so your consultant will set out the typical monthly costs at your consultation, before you decide anything. Because we support effective treatment at lower doses, treatment with us often costs less over time than headline prices elsewhere suggest.

Treatment FAQs
Will I definitely be prescribed medication?+
No — only if a specialist decides it's safe and appropriate for you.
Which medicines do you prescribe?+
Your consultant will discuss all suitable options at your consultation — Irish regulations don't allow us to name them here.
Can I get treatment through the HSE?+
Public reimbursement for weight management is currently very limited in Ireland; our service is private, following a consultation.
How quickly will I see results?+
It varies from person to person, and the first few weeks are usually about settling on the right dose and making sure you are tolerating treatment well, rather than about the scales. Most people see change over months rather than weeks. We review your progress at every appointment and adjust the plan around what is actually happening for you, rather than working to a fixed timetable.
Can I stop when I reach my goal?+
Yes, and that is your decision. What we will always do first is talk through what to expect, because for many people some weight returns after treatment stops, and it is better to plan for that than to be caught out by it. Where it is appropriate we look at reducing gradually, and at what will help keep the results in place afterwards.
What support comes alongside the medication?+
Your appointments are with an IMC-registered Consultant Endocrinologist, who reviews how treatment is going and adjusts it where needed. You can contact us between appointments if something does not feel right, and specialist dietetic input is available alongside your care. Medication is one part of the plan; the monitoring and review around it are what make it work safely.
