Getting started
Do I need a referral?+
No — you can book directly with us, in person or by video. If you have a GP, we are happy to keep them informed with your consent.
Will I definitely be prescribed medication?+
No. Suitability is decided in a live consultation with a Consultant Endocrinologist — never by a form alone.
What is BMI and why does it matter?+
BMI is your weight in relation to your height. It is a useful starting point for a conversation about treatment, but it is not a diagnosis and it does not describe your health on its own. Your consultant will consider it alongside your medical history and any weight-related conditions.
How do I book?+
You can book online through our booking system, by phone on +353 83 379 4326, or by sending us a message through the contact page. We will confirm your appointment and send a short medical questionnaire to complete beforehand.
Our clinics
Where are your clinics?+
Our main clinic is in central Dublin, with a second clinic in Letterkenny serving the north-west.
Can I switch between in-person and video?+
Yes — at any point in your treatment. Many patients have an in-person first visit, then video follow-ups.
Video consultations
How do video consultations work?+
A secure video call with the same consultants, with e-prescriptions sent to the pharmacy you nominate.
Treatment
Why don’t you name the medicines you prescribe on your website?+
Irish regulations do not allow prescription-only medicines to be advertised to the public, and we take that seriously. Your consultant will discuss every suitable option openly at your consultation — including benefits, risks and typical costs.
Which treatments do you offer?+
Prescription weight-loss treatment where it is clinically appropriate, alongside specialist dietetic support — your consultant will discuss all suitable options at your consultation.
Can I get treatment through the HSE?+
Public reimbursement for weight management is currently very limited in Ireland; our service is private, following a consultation.
What about side effects?+
Your doctor goes through risks and benefits before any decision, and you can raise anything at any review. Suspected side effects can be reported to the HPRA.
Fees
What does a consultation cost?+
All our fees are published in full on our fees and prices page. Consultations cost the same for initial and follow-up visits, whether in person in Dublin or Letterkenny or by video, and you can pay as you go or take an optional monthly subscription.
Do you sell medication?+
No — we are independent of dispensing. You take your e-prescription to any Irish pharmacy you choose.
Are there subscriptions or hidden charges?+
There are no hidden charges — fees are published and fixed, and medication is never bundled in. There is an optional monthly subscription, which includes a video consultation and a dietetic appointment each month; you can equally pay per consultation. Both are set out on our fees and prices page.
Support
What dietetic support do you offer?+
A specialist dietician works alongside the doctors, with initial and follow-up appointments available. Current rates are on our fees and prices page.
What is the Amara Health app?+
Twelve months’ access at no cost as part of your care, arranged by our team after your first consultation, with your consent.
How often will I be reviewed?+
At every dose change, with email reviews available on a stable dose — and a consultation with your doctor at least every three months.
